News » The Cannabis Car (for real) to Be Made in Canada
August 23, 2010 by Aaron Turpen
Motive Industries, a Canadian automotive design company, has announced plans to build Canada’s first biocomposite electric car – the Kestrel. The biologically-based composites used to make up various parts of the car’s body, interior, and other components will be made of hemp.
These composites will take various forms, including fiberglass-like body panels and interior cloth and plastic also derived from hemp.
The hemp components will be purchased from Alberta Innovates Technology Futures (AITF) which in turn purchases its raw hemp from an industrial hemp farm in Vegreville, Alberta.
Motive has not given a date for production of the Kestrel, but prototype models will be ready for testing later this year.
