News » Wisconsin Residents to Vote on Medical Marijuana Referendum

September 20, 2010 by

River Falls, WI joins Dane County in approving a Medical Marijuana Advisory Referendum this election season. The city council debated the measure before voting unanimously to have it placed on the November 2 ballot. The vote on July 15 by the Dane County Board was also unanimous. While there is no requirement for the state legislature to act should the referendum pass, it does indicate that the public is interested in exploring the option of allowing medical marijuana in their state. The city attorney used this argument in his opposition, stating “I do not believe it is a proper petition for direct legislation.”

With this approval, the people of Wisconsin will get to answer the question “Should the Wisconsin Legislature enact legislation allowing residents with debilitating medical conditions to acquire and possess marijuana for medical purposes if supported by their physician?”
